Suneel's Light - Meet the Boys - Francis D.
Francis is a smart, fun, happy, giving, thoughtful, beautiful & talented 14 year old with a smile that lights up a room. Francis has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, diagnosed at age 8 & Autism Spectrum Disorder, diagnosed at age 10. Francis lives in Orchard Park with his parents Steven & Suzanne & his siblings Luke & Zoey. Francis is a student at Autism Services, Inc., in Williamsville, NY. Even though we see him fight with his body & his mind on a daily basis Francis still finds a reason to smile. He has made us remember the simple things in life.
On March 8, 2012 Francis along with his Father Steven launched a book they both wrote that is a colabaration of Steve's photography & Francis' art works to raise money for DMD research. The book signing was a great success & Francis could not have been prouder of the project.
In the past year Francis has lost both his Grandfather's one year apart, Eugene Francis Weimer age 84, 1927-2011 & Douglas Vincent Desmond age 69, 1942-2012. Francis was named after his Grandfather's, Francis Douglas. These were two major loses for Francis, but he was wonderful at their funerals & made his Gramps & Papa very proud I'm sure. Rest In Peace Gene/Daddy/Gramps & Doug/Dad/Papa we will always miss you, but you both will always be in our hearts.
August 2012, Francis did his Make-A-Wish, Wish. He wanted to go on a Disney Cruise. Francis along with his family Steven, Suzanne, Luke & Zoey went on a 5-night Disney Cruise to the Bahamas. Never saw him so independent. He had a limosine ride to the airport, spent time at a pirate party, spent time on the Castaway Cay beach, saw the Atlantis Hotel & Aquarium, played some Goofey Golf on the top deck, learned how to sketch Donald Duck & Mickey Mouse, enjoyed being waited on other than by Mom & Dad & on the last day of the cruise spent some private time with Captain Mickey Mouse. Most importantly though, he had the time of his life!!!
