What is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy?
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is the most lethal genetic childhood disease diagnosed during childhood. It is a progressive muscle disorder that causes loss of muscle function and independence. Because Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is found on the "X" chromosome, the disorder manifests primarily in boys. The disease affects approximately 1 in every 3,500 males with more than 20,000 boys living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in the United States and more than 100,000 worldwide.
